Corner View: Change

It's that time of year for me: time to transform my room
from empty to full.
Right now there are just a few boxes laying around.
Tomorrow I will get busy and put everything in their right places.

This bulletin board will change to being one about the students' activities--
their sports, band, 4-H, etc.
I can keep a better eye on this one and thus prevent students
from changing some of the pictures--usually another student
or a faculty member who they don't like!

That little rolling 'chest' holds the computer and projector
for the Smart board.
This is new for me this year.

Right now I have a movable one,
but . . .
I'm supposed to be getting a wall one like this one.

However, if I don't, I will be grateful for this.
Change is 'a'comin' and it will arrive in full force next Tuesday
when the empty halls and rooms will fill with students.

Barn Charm #10 Southeast Ohio

My previous post was on a near-by animal preservation
called The Wilds.
The above is one of the barns that dot the 4,000 acres of presently used land.
(There is a total of 10,000 acres).

Below is a barn that is part of a fourth generation farm
(The fourth generation just graduated from  high school).

I come down off a steep hill to this scene on my way home from school
every day that school is in session.
I kept my antenna in this photo because I liked the sweep of land that showed.

There has been a lot of heart-ache in the family who owns and runs this farm,
but they persevere.

The road you see leads back to three more farms, but the road is private to those farms,
so I've not taken it.

This barn is across from the above farm. It's on the other side of Rt. 147,
the road I drive every day to school and back.
Another family owns this barn and land.  They have three farms spread out
in different areas of the county.
This is a third generation farm with no fourth planned.

I took these quickly today on my way home from school.
I wish I could have gotten more shots of them, but I value my safety. :>)

The Wilds and the Scriptures of the Week

Several weeks ago, Mike and I took the four Ohio grandchildren
to a wildlife preservation called "The Wilds."
It's about 30 minutes from New Concord, Ohio
(home of John Glenn).

AEP gave 10,000 acres of reclaimed strip mine land
to be used for the preservation, with 4,000 actively used now;
the rest will be used as they expand.
It is affiliated with Jack Hannas and the Columbus Zoo.

We chose the two and a half hour open safari bus tour.
There is an air-conditioned bus,
but you don't see the animals 'up close and personal'.

The following are some photos from that day.

Rhino--I forget the kind.

As you can see, he came up to the bus.  That's Dillon's head and Colton's arm.
Addy and I were sitting behind them,
and Mike and Peyton behind us.

This camel was very close to the bus.

The guide pointed out its long lashes
and hair around its eyes.

I liked his face, but he looks a bit deformed because of the way the humps rest on his body.

This is one of the outposts on the preservation.

We followed a path through wild flowers down to one of the many small lakes.
This woman is part of our group.

Colton is explaining something to Dillon and Peyton.

There were large catfish here and a bubble gum-like dispenser where
you could get a handful of food to throw to the catfish.
Addy didn't realize what it was and ate some!

This is across from where we fed the catfish.  In the far left-hand corner you can see the platform.

These are white rhinos.

We weren't close to the guy above, but we passed these guys close up.

There was sharing of two sets of binoculars.

Grandpa Mike with Colton,
then the wee Irish lass Addy,
Peyton , and Dillon.

We had a great day.  We ate lunch there,
and then each grandchild got to choose something from the gift shop.
(I have photos of more animals, but I will show them another day).

Scriptures of the Week:
At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying,
"Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said,
"Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 18:1-3

But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them,
"Let the children come to me; do not hinder them,
for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."
Mark 10:14

"The God commanded, 'Let the earth produce all kinds of animal life;
domestic and wild, large and small, and it was done.
So God made them all, and He was pleased with what He saw."
Genesis 1:24, 25

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory
and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours."
1 Chronicles 29:11

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:17

But now ask the beasts (cattle) to teach you,
and the birds of the air to tell you;
or the reptiles on the earth to instruct you,
and the fish of the sea to inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of God has done this?
In his hand is the soul of every living thing,
and the life breath of all mankind.
Job 12: 7-10

I decided to come back and add one more bit.
We have our teachers' days tomorrow and Tuesday.
We have a new secretary and the teacher who everyone ran to
(including the principal)
retired last June after 32 years.
She taught across from me and I and others will so miss her!

The day after Labor Day is the kids' first day back.
Please keep me and the others in your prayers.
Last year there was a lot of friction
and I'm praying it won't be brought back.
Thanks!

Indoor cat/outdoor scents

Ahhh, the scent of the outdoors---next best thing to being there!

George loves my garden slide-ons after I've been working hard in the soil.
He usually rolls on them, but this night he decided to slip into them!

(George can no longer be trusted to even go out on the back patio.
He heads straight for the lily leaves to chomp on them.
This is not a good idea because lily leaves are poisonous to cats.
He ate one once, but fortunately threw it up.
He also loves to roll around in any and all plants,
his 19 lbs. squashing everything.
This does not please me.
So George is now stuck with smelling my shoes!)

Corner View: Passion

Passion

When I think of the word passion,
I think of the passion of love
and that leads me to the heart.

I have a collection of heart-themed items.
I spread some of them out for a photo for this post.
I had a difficult time with the light on the lighter-patterned ones,
so I'm featuring them separately.

Here are the lighter-patterned heart-shaped 'containers'.
I use all  (here and above)
to store jewelry.

I place them in various arrangements on two dressers
and a jewelry dresser in my bedroom.

This is my favorite 'container'.
I saw it at a arts and crafts fair in Cincinnati.
It is a combination of metal, stained glass,
and blown glass.
My daughter-in-law was with me
and she doubled back and bought it
for me for a Christmas present.

I keep my bigger silver and mixed metals earrings in it.

These are some of my heart-themed pins.
I have a huge collection of pins---they're are my signature jewelry.
I've been called the "Pin Lady" at school.

Here are my favorite items.
The angel I bought for my mom for the Valentine's Day that was her last.
She had been given two months to live after the leukemia diagnosis.
She died shortly after V'Day.
Dad kept this angel on her red Bible beside the reddish leather-like box
that contained her ashes--all on his night stand.
They are mine now.

The funky red heart pin was made by an artist friend.  She does mixed media.

The star with the heart in the middle was a Christmas present from my husband.
I had seen it in a Coldwater Creek clothing catalogue and showed it to him.
I was thrilled he actually bought it for me.

The gold heart pin is part of a collection of gold pins given to my
by my Grandma Jarvis (my mom's mother)
when I was a little girl.
I have all of them still except for the gold B for my name.
(I still have the A for my middle name Anne).
There were 8 in the collection, but this is the only heart one.

Here's a bit more detail of the angel.
Mom kept the angel perched near
her bed.  I told her the angel was
to watch over her.
She even had hearts on her dress!

I'm not sure from where or whom this came,
but I use it to protect my pearl jewelry.

This one was a Christmas present from a close friend who likes to make artsy presents.
Even though it has a Christmas theme, I keep it out year round.

This is a Longaberger basket--famously made here in Ohio. I  like the way it is set up inside.

I like the clear lift-out tray.  The earrings are all my mother's or given to me by my mother.
My childhood charm bracelet and a special bracelet made from sterling silver spoons
are kept here also.
All of the next ones have either been bought by me or given to me.

This is the only one that is not pink, blue, or red.  It has an Oriental flare to it.

Here are a few more pins.  This
one I wear only around Valentine's
Day.  It is from the Boyd's Bear
collection.

This angel has a purple amethyst heart.  Amethyst is my birthstone.
It is also a combination of gold and silver and that gives it more versatility.

I'm featuring this pin because it is part of a collection called "The 1920's Collection."
All of the jewelry in this collection look vintage.
I have pins, necklaces, and earrings --all different, but all vintage looking.

This is part of a set of five bracelets--all with hearts somewhere on them.

This heart on a ribbon was used to wrap a gift given to me.
This glass container is my only true red heart of the collection.

Once more, a photo glimpse of them from a different angle.

To end this post on passion,
I have included a song that is a favorite from a favorite movie.
I believe that when you truly love someone, you put them first.

(I am new at this video stuff, so once you click on the arrow,
you will have to click on the
"Watch on You Tube" phrase to actually see the video.

Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
From movie Robin Hood
Below are the lyrics.

{For more corner views on passion, check out Francesca at Fuoriborgo}

Bryan Adams Lyrics > Everything I Do I Do It for You Lyrics

Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

Look into your heart - you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am - take my life
I would give it all I would sacrifice
Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
There's no love - like your love
And no other - could give more love
There's nowhere unless you're there
All the time - all the way

Oh you can't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
I would fight for you - I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you - Ya I'd die for you
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
