Barn Charm #24

Here is another Mail Pouch barn
that we found on our drive from Dayton.
I took the photos from across the road.

The light wasn't the best
and I was using my husband's old camera;
I had let the battery run down on mine.

But I think you can still see some of its charm.

As you can see, it has several out-buildings on the slight slope behind it,
and there is a road running from Rt. 40 up into the farm.

It was probably there before Rt. 40 was built.
I wonder what the owners thought of the 'new highway' being built
so close to their barn.
They probably 'lost' some land in the deal.

  2. LOVE it!
It looks like the old ad wore off and they decided to go with a larger one.
    Love that fencing as well.
Can't really tell if that is a blue tarp stretched over the roof or new blue tin. Hope it's tin. :)

  3. When I first saw your photo in thumbnail, I noticed the highway....and I had some of the same questions you did. Love that tobacco advertisement!

  4. Great barn! I always like seeing ones with advertising on them. Many of the barns we saw in Pennsylvania and the NE have barns sitting right on the road. I'm sure they were built long before there was a road, or at the time having the road run through your farmyard was a good thing.

  6. No doubt that they lost some land in the new highway deal.

  7. Oh, this is a beauty....love advertising on the side of the barn.

Talking about losing ground to the highway...my husband and I are always talking about that on trips over to Indianapolis...how a lot of the houses we pass were probably once in the country, now they are on a busy highway. That would be so heartbreaking to me.

  9. Great barn pictures, Beth. The "Mail Pouch" advertisements remind me of "See Rock City" which used to be on all of the barns in our area...

    Hope you are doing well.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  14. Great advertising barn! It's hard to imagine the roads and lines being brought so close to the buildings.
