Corner View: Hmmmm!

One of my husband's favorite meals is liver and onions.
I fixed it for him for his birthday dinner last week,
using his mother's recipe.

It smells delicious.
It looks like veal (which I love).

He persuaded me twice (years ago)
to try a bite.
My reaction both times: Yuck!
Worse though was that the taste lingered for the rest of the day.

So this is my "Things that make you go hmmmm!"
Liver: looks good, smells good, tastes yucky.

  4. My daddy loved liver and onions. It might be a man's dish. I remember trying it as a kid and that was it never again.
He was one lucky birthday boy to have his favorite dish. Happy Belated to your DH! :) xo

  5. I don't like liver either. When I was little and my mother would make it, the only way I could eat it was to drown it in horseradish sauce.

  6. It looks fantastic, but I am with you. Also, why would anyone want to eat something that functions as a filter for all the bad stuff in ones body????

  12. Mom always made us eat liver and onions once a week. Can't say I've continued the tradition :)

  13. Liver and onions! Indeed, as Becky said, once a week, we had that, served on bread. As a child, I liked it, but I've not eaten meat in yonks, so I forget what it tastes like.

  14. i agree. as a child on a school trip i misread a dish provencale from a roadside cafe's menu, and ended up licking off the sauce of the inedible offal. urrrggghhh.
on that school trip, i wasn't the only one.

  15. As a kid, when Mom made liver, it was awful. It was so dry [and she was a good cook]. The best part? Covered with catchup. Many years ago I learned to cook liver in a tender and nice way... and for some reason I remember cooking it occasionally. That was at least 45 years back. Haven't done it since and never ever plan to. Know some really love it, so bless them. But liver [and other inner-organs] just can't enter my life unless there ain't no choice ever ever ever. [What a blessing of a wife he has, though, who gave him a favorite gift. You're a good lady!]
