On her Daddy and Mommy's boat, standing steady, she bends her knees, tilts her head and watches
as the cup tips and the ashes spill. Solemnly---she understands the importance of this moment. She never met her (Great-)Grandma Shirley, but she remembers her (Great-)Grandpa Roy vividly and she still sheds tears for him.
Her Grandma Beth holds back her little brother. He has had his turn as has little sis. The last cup is Peyton's responsibility. We say good-bye and then we pray.

oh man..this one ripped me up...i lost my grandfather at an early age...it is a vivid memory for me...

ReplyDeleteOh this one strikes so close to home -- just back from a trip with my boys to visit my mother-in-law for the last time, as she eases into her final days. Beautiful photo and words. Thank you.
