Barn Charm # 19

This barn and outbuildings are part of a farm that sits across the road
from the high school where I teach.
There is big farm house up the hill from the barn,
but I don't have a photo of it.

This has a fairly long driveway up to the house.
There is a section that floods and then they have to go in and out
by a rough back road through another's property.

We (at school) know when their drive-way begins to flood
that there's a good chance we will have an emergency dismissal
due to flooding conditions.
(We get as many flood days as we do snow days).

I used to have a daily view of this farm.
I remember being thrilled at the view
when I first saw my room
after being hired.

I had spent six years in a second floor class room
with no windows.

To have a window was great,
but to have this view was fabulous.

Alas, I was laid off for a year,
and a special-ed teacher got my room.
I was brought back as a replacement
for a teacher who had retired.
Now I get to look at the science rooms.
Sigh.
But on the bright side, I still have windows!

  3. That is a sweet view! Nice barn. I like the ones with silos right next to them.

In today's world I'm happy for you to be working again! But yeah, sad to lose that view! You're right though, at least you do have a window now. I went to a high school that didn't have windows in most of the classes. Yuck! :P

  4. She's a beauty... repairs needed, but still a beauty & very big, too! LoL!
Does the flooding reach up to the barn itself? Looks like a pretty good size field there in front...

Thanks so much for joining Barn Charm =)

  5. I just read your comment & have to say that the weather is so crazy... it's hard to plan for anything.
I just can't believe we've gotten snow this early, but as long as it's just snow & no ice, I can deal w/ it! LoL!

  6. I like the different lines and shapes in these. I'd be lost without windows!

  7. I wonder what happened to the side. Looks like a red paint was spilled in there. ^_^

  10. A great view! I'm intrigued by the tower at the side of the barn.
Hope you have a good week at school. (To-day the schools are out because of national trade union protest in the UK so we are looking after our grandchildren).

  13. I was first drawn to it by the colors and contrasts. As I read your story, and re-viewed it, I saw some possibility of true concern by the owners. Damage is so clearly in-your-face and the need to repair or replace would be too overwhelming, especially with flooding.

HOWEVER, I'm very happy that you can look out windows and see the trees, sky, hills, and just breathe more easily.

  14. I had nearly the same experience when I was a teacher! My first room had a window where I could see the outline of the foothills of the Appalachian mountains!

  15. I sure like this...I would have been thrilled to have this view.

If I knew you were a teacher, I forgot. Don't know what to say, except teachers are special people and I sure appreciate some of the ones my girls had.
