Prom 2015

I am the junior class adviser. With that comes the responsibility of planning the prom and decorating for it.  It was this past Saturday April 18th.   It went great! No problems that night of and only minor, fixable ones beforehand.

Here I am ready to leave for the prom.  It was held in a near-by town at a convention hall.

Our theme was Sea of Love.  This picture doesn't do the dance floor justice.  It was quite elegant with a chandelier hanging down in the middle of columns draped with white and periwinkle organza weaved to look like sea waves. The blue rolls are the prom invitations rolled up and tied with twine for their scrapbooks.

Our wall of fish and shells.  They are suspended by fishing line on two twelve-ft. long fish nets.  The kids made the fish and spray painted and glittered white plastic shells.

Our ship wreck.  Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it lit up.  There were lights around the door.

My wonderful husband made the 8 ft. by 4 ft. ship masts which we then draped with organza and lights.  The seaweed was made from a kit with glitter added.

Our food table: cookies, pop, and water.  This doesn't show this area well either.  There are sea horses on small pedestals glued to a base that holds cookies.

The anchor and wheel which were built from a kit also (so was the ship wreck).

 My crew of 11 juniors who were a tremendous help in pulling this prom off.

Some cookies that I had made.  Prom 2015 is written in the sand with the sea waves lapping at the edge. I'm exhausted but thrilled. I rested most of the day.

Corner View: Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time a Japanese princess with a reindeer crown and a bright red hair bow discovered an ancient trunk and just had to open it.  Treasures awaited her.

 If you look up above the Abbey Castle in Ireland, you will see a white dot.  That white dot is a statue of Jesus.

Corner View: Cuddle

 This moment is one of my favorite captured on film.  It is Christmas 2011 and my son is getting his niece to sleep. He felt he had had plenty of practice with 4 children of his own.  He succeeded then fell asleep with her.

My mom had a cat named Muffy.  When she and my dad moved into a retirement home, they couldn't take the cat with her.  I believe my daughter gave this stuffed animal cat to her grandma to cuddle with.  Her son (mom's great-grandson) now loves it and keeps it close.

Corner View: Warmth

For warmth, we have several throws and quilts on hand in the living room.  The first one shown was given to me by my son and his kids at Christmas.  It is luxurious and so warm!  When I have to sleep in this recliner because of arthritic/fibromyalgia issues, I burrow under this 'throw' and fall asleep nestled in warmth.

Beside the recliner is a big basket of more warmth.  There is a fluffy throw, a quilt, and a crocheted afghan (made by my mother).  The grandchildren grab these to wrap up in.

The last pic shows the throw I keep on the couch for Mike.  If he lies down on the couch, he pulls that over him.  The quilt shown in the last pic on the top of the couch is to protect it from the cats that love to lie there.  There is a blanket covering the sitting part of the couch also because of the animals.

Corner View: Homemade

i don't have anything homemade as in cooked or baked.  So I went with handmade with help from Snapfish.
 I was in a hurry when I took these, so the  photos of all these cards could be better.  The light is not as good as it should be. But I'm showing them anyway..The cards are brighter and more distinguishable than they are showing up here.
I make cards for family, friends, and myself.  I use my barn photos and Snapfish.  I used to have Cards by Beth on the back but I now put Revskid's Cards (I'm a Reverend's or Rev's kid).  The scene on  the back is always one of two photos I have of what used to be my husband's mom's family farm. It is now owned outside the Butler family.
I hope to expand on this endeavor when I retire even to printing my own.

 I also used to make cards with scrapbook material, but I don't have the time for that.  That is also something I want to take up when I retire.

We've been dog sitting my son's dog Smooch.  She is the black lab in the picture.  She is 15 years old.

I took this picture this morning--they have never been all together like this.  Smooch with our dog Ginger, then Mike with Scruffy and George.

Corner View: Experience

This is a book by a beloved friend of mine and fellow blogger, Caryjo.  You can get it from Amazon.  I have it on my Kindle Fire.  This is a fictional story based on true parts of her life. I've had it for quite awhile, but just started reading it.  It's a wonderful, Christian-based story about a young teenage-girl and the grandmother-type woman who reaches out to her.  The woman's name is Cary.

Joanne (or Caryjo as bloggers know her) uses her experiences to reach out and witness to others.

 A friend and blogger(who no longer has a blog but does Facebook), Nance introduced me to the poems of Ted Kooser.  He's a poet laureate of the United States and lives in Garland, Nebraska. He writes about everyday experiences in such a way that I can instantly relate.  Truly a wonderfully talented poet. This is my third and latest book of his.
The following are three poems from the book pictured.  The last poem has the same title as the book. I think most of us can relate to the experiences written about in the poems.

Corner View: Walk of my dreams

As many of you know, we went to Ireland when we turned 50.  It will be 11 years ago this summer. It was  my dream trip.  The walk below was around a clift overlooking Ardmore.  There is a shrine, a saint's baptismal well, and a tower lookout. Nora Roberts' visited this area and wrote a trilogy around these sites.  Particularly 'magical' was the well. The trilogy is: Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon, and Heart of the Sea.  These make wonderful light-reading, especially if you want to 'escape' for a while. I did my research and chose Ardmore as our first stop out of Dublin. It was a walk of my dreams and I would love to walk it again.
