Corner View: Light

This week the topic is light.  I was thinking of sayings and song lyrics that have the word light in them.
One of the songs came to my mind and stuck there.  I remember when Debbie Boone first sang it with  fresh-faced innocence. I was 24 years old, a wife, and a mother.  My second child, a son, was born that year of 1978 and 'he was mine', whereas my daughter was her father's even when in my womb.  Through his marriage, I 'lost' him for awhile, but now he's back and the new woman in his life has no problem sharing him.  I can openly celebrate the light he brings into my life.

The following are two videos of Debbie Boone singing "You Light Up My Life."   The first one has a montage of nature photos full of light.   The second one is Debbie singing the song on an Oprah show---Debbie has grown into a woman in this second video.  Both are good, but the second one is shorter.
However, the sound is better on the first.

The Lyrics:
So many nights I sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now
You’ve come along
Rollin’ at sea, adrift on the water
Could it be finally I’m turning for home?
Finally, a chance to say hey,
I love You
Never again to be all alone

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song
It can’t be wrong
When it feels so right
‘Cause You
You light up my life

  1. Oh, I SOOOOO remember that song! Love it still.

  2. What a good post for light! I loved that song when I was young, and still do. Great application!

  3. I haven't heard that song in ages! I remember rushing home from church to hear it on America's Top 40 with Casey Kasem!

  4. I can see why your son would light up your heart so bright even sunglasses wouldn't help. You are one very lucky gal to have so much light around you, but then you already know that. :) Enjoy!! xo

PS I hope he finds someone to appreciate him and brighten his days.

  5. Our children do light up our lives, don't they?
    Nice post.

  6. it is good to hear of you and your child sharing your is joy.

  7. That is a wonderful song. Hope your days will be filled with light.

  8. I did not know this song but it lightings up my life!

  9. Hi, Sorry I haven't been around this week. We have bee traveling and taking more photos... Hope you are having a great week.

Great post. I love that song, "You Light up my Life"... Thanks for sharing.

  10. I can really identify with sons lighting up Mama's life!! And I do remember the Debbie Boone song!

  11. Great song! I used to play it on the piano when it was popular and sing at the top of my lungs. I don't know which is worse - my singing or my piano playing! But it made me happy.

ps I don't think I ever told you that I didn't get the other job, but thank you for asking. The good thing is that I am happy at my current job again. I FINALLY got my review and raise (albeit 5 mos late and not retroactive) and am getting some meatier assignments.

  12. So happy re: your son and you being filled with that light OR, more significantly, with The Light. Blessings.

  13. You had your children very young! I'm happy to read that your son found a new partner in life!

  14. I fear the day when my sons will get married. I pray that they find wives who will be generous enough to share them with me.

  15. A new partner who appreciates the mother raising such a fine man - what luck!

I haven't given that issue much thought yet - but yes, one day I'll probably end up with a daughter-in-law. (As I haven't been the easiest daughter-in-law myself in the past, I hope this will not come back like a karma boomerang.)

  16. how sweet an account of a mother's love for her son. believe you me, i know that feeling....!
and i finally found a pocket of time to listen to the debbie boone. it sures reminds me of my years in high school. it was a hit in europe too... cheers for the sentiment.
ps - in reply; so true, creativity delivers light! thxs.
